Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has temporarily halted the supply of three of its models – Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux – in India after finding irregularities in the certification tests for their diesel engines. Toyota Industries Corporation, associated with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), had announced a day earlier that irregularities were detected in the tests related to the horsepower output of the diesel engines in these three models.
In India, these engines are used in Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux models. Globally, these engines are used in 10 models, including six models in Japan. In response to inquiries, a spokesperson for Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) stated, ”The irregularities are related to the power and torque of the engine, but no claims have been made regarding horsepower, torque, or other engine-related matters.”
The company also clarified that there is no impact on the emission or safety of the affected vehicles. The spokesperson mentioned, ”The irregularities are related to power and torque but no changes have been made in other aspects like horsepower, torque, or the engine. This situation does not have any impact on the emissions or safety of the affected vehicles.”
Meanwhile, TKM will continue to accept new orders for all three models, and the company has already informed its dealers. However, customers will be made aware of the status of the yet-to-be-distributed vehicles affected by this situation. TKM stated, ”We would like to reassure our existing customers that their vehicles are unaffected by these irregularities as there have been no changes in other aspects like horsepower, torque, or the engine. This situation does not involve any compromise on the emission or safety of the affected vehicles.”
TKM is working with relevant authorities to reconfirm the figures used in the certification of the affected vehicles. In the meantime, the supply of the impacted models has been temporarily suspended. The company emphasized that the decision to temporarily halt the supply is taken to ensure compliance and transparency in the certification process.
