Toyota Halts Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux Supply in India Due to Diesel Engine Certification Irregularities

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has temporarily suspended the supply of three of its models – Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux – in the country after irregularities were found in the certification tests of their diesel engines. A day earlier, Toyota Industries Corporation, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), had stated that irregularities were detected in the power output tests of the diesel engine variants of these three models.

These engines are used in the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux models in India. Globally, these engines are used in 10 models, including six models in Japan. When contacted about this issue, a spokesperson for Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) stated, “The irregularities are related to the power and torque of the engine, but there have been no claims made regarding horsepower, torque, or other engine-related matters.”

Furthermore, the company spokesperson stated in a statement that the affected vehicles’ emissions or safety would not be affected. TKM is working with relevant authorities to confirm the accuracy of the data used for the certification of affected vehicles. In such a situation, TKM is temporarily suspending the supply of affected vehicles.

Meanwhile, TKM will continue to accept new orders for all three models. The company stated that customers with previously delivered vehicles that have not been affected by these irregularities will be informed about the situation. TKM also stated, “We would like to assure our existing customers that their vehicles are unaffected by these irregularities as there have been no changes in horsepower, torque, or other aspects of the engine. This has also not resulted in any compromises on the emissions or safety of their vehicles.”
