Tata Group is planning to establish a significant Semiconductor Fabrication Plant in Dholera, Gujarat, according to Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. The operation of the semiconductor plant is expected to commence in 2024. Chandrasekaran mentioned that discussions about the project are in the final stages. The announcement was made during the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present.
The semiconductor plant is crucial for the auto industry, especially as vehicles incorporate more advanced technology and electronics, increasing the demand for semiconductors. Additionally, Chandrasekaran revealed plans for a 20 GW gigafactory to produce lithium-ion batteries in Sanand, Gujarat. This expansion is aimed at meeting the rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Tata Group is currently manufacturing C-295 defense aircraft in Vadodara and plans to extend the manufacturing to Dholera.
Chandrasekaran expressed the significance of Gujarat as a strategic destination for Tata Group’s business growth and the development of future advanced technology industries in India. He highlighted that 21 companies of the Tata Group are currently operating in the state, providing employment to more than 50,000 people.
Chandrasekaran also praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting the steady and spectacular progress in Gujarat over the past two decades. He emphasized that the economic benefits have not only contributed to the state’s development but also had a deep impact on social progress.
